Canyon cove

Growing up, when I think of Beach, summer, resorts... Batangas always comes up to mind. Batangas has always been a popular choice for my family's summer outings - way back then, Munting Buhangin, Anilao, Blue Coral and Eagle's points were the most talked about places to go. Not to mention the ever popular Matabungay beach resort. One's childhood ( atleast that of my age ) wouldn't be complete without having to visit atleast one Batangas beach resort.

In the late 90's, Beaches from the North came in more popular. Pagudpod, Pangasinan, La Union, Olongapo, Zambales and other beaches up North is now on top of every one's summer list (or maybe just mine). And just when I almost forget how wonderful the beaches in Batangas were, developers never gave up to explore and enhance the place. Thanks to the good advertisement from The Fuego Group ( as I call it - Funta Fuego, Terrazas de Punta Fuego ), Lago de Oro, Canyon Cove, The Balai's ( I collectively called those resort with Balai's in their name) and Acuatico Resort - to name a few, The beaches in Batangas came back to it's rightful spot.

Just Recently, we decided to welcome summer 2010 in Canyon Cove Beach Club in Nasugbu.
Canyon Cove is one of the membership club located in this past of Batangas.
It is Open for day tours and overnight accomodation.

How to Get there:
PUBLIC TRANSPORT: Ride a Bus from Lawton/Pasay to Nasugbu Pier. From Nasugbu, there are FX or Jeepneys that you can rent goint to barangay Wawa.
PRIVATE CAR: From Tagaytay Rotonda, head towards the right arm of the road going to Nasugbu. From Nasugbu, Just go straight ahead until the forked road. Take the right road that says to Nasugbu. Continue going straight until you reach barangay Wawa and just at that marker you will see on your left side the entrance to Canyon Cove.

Let me compare the 2 most popular Beach club/residential resort in the area.
For me, beach in Canyon Cove is better than that of Fuego's. The sand is finer and water is cleaner , but for the ambiance and facilities - shower room, resort interior and pool, my vote goes to Fuego.

I just hate it when my camera fails to capture picture perfect moments... =(

Ciudad Real de Acuzar

Our much anticipated summer getaway, was almost ruined when our reservation with Canyon cove was suddenly cancelled. Just imagine how we felt when after booking our beach trip a month ago, 3 days from the actual booking date, we learned that our reservation was cancelled! Que Horror! Not to mention all we got was "sorry " from the management of the place. VERY VERY VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I felt bad for the people who manage Canyon Cove and I won't be surprised if they will soon be bankrupt for all the hassles they givetheir customers.

Well it's a blessing in disguise that we were forced to look for another place to spend our weekend. We searched the net, asked friends, friends of friends just to get a place where we can hang-out. We almost lost hope, since we barely have 3 days to look for a resort. Of course, we all know that at this time, it is imposible to find a good resort because most of them are fully booked. I'm just so glad, blessings comes when you need it most. A friend, friend's recommended a new discovery in Bataan - CIUDAD REAL DE ACUZAR.

The resort is scheduled to open for the public on 2011, but had just it's soft opening recently. Only 4 hectars out of the 400 land area, is constructed/ restored as of the moment but is worth visitng already. The place accomodates, day tour with set lunches for only Php 1000 and overnight packages ( See attached flyer for rates ).

HOW TO GO THERE:

From NLEX, take the SCTEX exit going to subic ( about 1 hour travel time ). Inside Subic, floow the signs going to Anvaya Cove or Morong Gate.
From Morong gate, just follow road going to Bagac ( about 1 hour travel time - you get pass the pawikan Conservation center (right side of the road ) just continue to drive ( about 15- 20 mins ) until you see the Friendshp tower on your right. Turn right. Take another right turn on the next street then left and you would see the metal gate of the resort. On the left side is the parking area of Ciudad Real de Acuzar - Cars are only allowed to enter the resort for drop off and pick up.

The coble stone roads of Cuidad Real de Acuzar reminds me of my trip to Vigan. The ambiance is a bit more mirthful maybe so because it's a new resort, but the historical value of the place depicts that of what Vigan offers it's guests since all "casa " are made from restored antic houses. Although, Cuidad Real de Acuzar is more known to be a place to rekindle our history and tradition, and most people visit the place for day tour, do not forget that it's first and foremost a resort that has a "batis" style swimming pool and a beach ( Gray sand only ) so it's also a good place to spend the night. Overnight package usually come with a set breakfast and lunch and dinner are serve in the Casa Unisan - Marivent Cafe, served Ala Carte, or in the Casa for buffet meals.

If your out on a road trip in Batangas, I suggest you head towards the municipality of Lobo. This area isn't as popular as Mabini or Laiya area wherein most bakasyonistas go to during summer time. it doesn't boast of white sand beaches as those places I mentioned earlier but it does have a scenic view that is equally remarkable.

Lobo is about 3 hours drive from the city of Batangas, road going to the Lighthouse is party cemented and partly rough. There is just one gas station from the city to the lighthouse proper so I suggest you fuel up before you start your ride.

Revisitng Subic -

The Meat Plus Cafe, is located along Sampson Road in Subic.( Sampson Road is a few blocks from the waterfront area ). This resto offers wide variety of steaks and you have an option to chose from their set-meals or from the frozen imported premium quality frozen steaks display in the freezer and have it cooked ( Php 100 cooking fee ). Price range for the set meals cost from Php 150 - 500 and P 400 - 1000 for frozen meats. Serving size depends on the meal you like, some may just be right for one person, and others maybe good to share for 2.

I've often mention how much I love relaxing at Tagaytay after a heavy stressful week. And so here's another entry on one of my escapades in my favorite out of town place. To start my "spa weekend" we had lunch at Gbar just along the Aguinaldo Hi-way on our way to Taj of Tagaytay since check-in time at the hotel is 2 PM. Initially, we were looking to spend night at Moongarden , Antonio's or Sonya's. Nurture Spa was out of the lost since we already had one of our Tagaytay Spa escapades there so we wanted to try something else. Due to limited time planning and budget, we decided to stay at Taj of Tagaytay. One, it's the cheapest, second, it's one of the newest hotel in the area. Just in time for summer, they have a package for only Php 3500 which includes 2 breakfast and massage for two ( 30 mins each. For additional Php 600 each you can upgrade to an hour massage of your choice ). As name sounds, this is an Indian-inspired hotel so it's kinda new to us.

Driving from Manila to Tagaytay isn't always fun. You have to bear the weekend traffic and the uneven roads. Good thing, upon reaching Tagaytay and feeling it's cool summer breeze, makes the trip worthwhile. On our way to Andanita Hotel- Taj of Tagyatay, a sign board on the road caught our attention. EAT-ALL-YOU- CAN regular rate is Php 695.00 and is now on promo for only Php165.00! Who could resist such offer? definitely not the ones who haven't eaten breakfast all day. We went it the place at around 10:30 am but the buffet wouldn't start until 11 am so we have to wait for a few minutes. We saw the waiters bring out and arrange the food on the buffet table which just added to our agony of waiting until the buffet is ready.
It's the longest 30 minutes of our lives... Tick -tock! tick- tock! Alas, it's chow time!

Vieux Chalet

I love food, no doubt about it... I don't mind traveling to get a tasteful meal. This is one of the vices I think I won't ever give up.

One Saturday morning, my friends and I decided to do some catching up and of course, what better way to do it but over a good meal. Amalie, suggested to visit Vieux Chalet- an authentic Swiss restaurant located in Antipolo city. It's an exclusive restaurant inside the Villa Christina Subdivision. Hidden in the series of private vacation houses and residential houses lies this one of a kind restaurant that we don't usually see in the metro (or a little bit outside the metro.) Unfortunately, there is no public transport going to the place so one must bring a car or ride a cab. The place accommodates only a small group of people so it's best to get reservation first before you visit the place.

Zola Resto Cafe , Baguio City

Here's another food place to try in Baguio - The Zola Cafe. This place is also located along Session road, it is a bit more commercialized and got more food options than Oh my Gulay! ( see previous entry ) but I say food is also satisfactory. Big servings, especially their rice meals and reasonable price. Be careful on their spicy entree though, it might be too much for you! ( You can always let the waiter know to lessen the spices if you want to ) Good news to internet addicts, this place offers free Wi-fi too!

Thai Rice - yummy dish but too spicy for my taste. This rice meal is complete in itself, got bits of pork, shrimp paste, veggies and

Mango cake is good but i find it dry, they can improve more on this.. ( I hope )

Omellete for the Veggetarian

This is their version of Adodo rice with tinapa flakes! ( Smoked fished flakes with bits of pork adobo )

The palce offer, pastas, pizza and a lot more goodies for a fairly reasonable price.

Oh my Gulay!

With or Without the Panagbenga Festival, Baguio will always be one of the best places to visit if you want to get some relaxation and good food. Let me share some of the places I found during my palatial stay in the city of Pines. Here is one of the best Resto's in the city.

Oh My Gulay! Restaurant is located on the fifth floor of the La Azotea Building along Session road. It's amazing that it has an outdoor feel despite it's location. The place is full of great and interesting art pieces. It's interior is very stylish and lots of photo opportunity for those who love taking pictures. The restaurant only serve vegetarian meal so it's a haven for all those who love veggies.

PANAGBENGA FESTIVAL 2009

Baguio city is called the Summer capital of the Philippines - cool climate, explicit natural beauty and rich cultural heritage makes it the favorite out of town hangout of both local and foreign tourists alike. Every year, the residents of Baguio celebrates the Panagbenga Festival (formerly known as the Flower Festival) which literary means the "season of blooming." It usually lasts for a month with highlights every weekend. The Grand Float parade and the Street dance parade, usually done at the last week of the celebration showcases beautiful flowers found in the region.

HOW TO GET THERE: From Manila go to Cubao or Pasay and ride the Victory Bus Liner. This bus line caters land transfer from Manila to Baguio daily. ( Rate : Php 440 - one way for standard aircon bus, Php 670 Deluxe bus without CR and Php 700++ for Deluxe bus with CR )

Vacant transient houses, dorms, hotel and houses for rent are extremely hard to find during the Festival season so I suggest you book ahead of time if you wish to visit Baguio at this time.Hotel rates varies from Php 1500- 5500 per night depending on the location and the facilities of the place. Transit houses and dorms are for those traveling on budget. We got ours for only Php 250 per head per night, 2 people share a room and has a common lavatory ( 2 rooms, 1 toilet ) It is a newly constructed building so the place is clean and nice for the price.

Most Filipinos would never feel satisfied without eating a full rice meal in a day, I for one is an avid fan of rice. Can't seem to last a day without it... On our way back from Tagaytay, we decided to take the south Super Hi-way (SLEX) to avoid the traffic via the Coastal road going home. We passed by Santa Rosa Laguna and so we decide to eat dinner at Paseo de Santa Rosa. This place offers lots of restos to choose from but since we are all hungry after a tiring day in Tagaytay, we wanted to eat somethign heavy. We decided to try this new restauraurant that we saw the- Kanin Club

The name didn't sound too enticing at first but we wanted to see what this place have to offer...

The menu lists common Filipino dishes but with some exciting twist -an example would be the sinangag na sinigang ( fried rice sinigang) . I must say, the owners of the resto and the chefs did a great job in recaging the traditional Filipino food. Here's another good food and good price place I would surely visit again. Here are some of the foods we tried..

Sinangag na Sinigang - Sinigang Flavored friend rice with crispy kangkong toppings. Must try for Sinigang lovers!

Ginataan Hipon (Shrimps in coconut milk)

Kare- Kareng gulay - Vegetarian Kare kare, of course witout meat but withoutt sacrificing the taste

Crispy Liempo. Bacon cut pork liempo. Really crispy and addicting!

The place have an indoor and out door ( smoking ) area and since the place ( Paseo de Santa Rosa )hosts live band performers on weekend nights, you can just chill out and relax while enjoying the food.

Macau Museums

Apart from being known as one of the most luxurius city in Asia, Macanese shows love for arts and culture. It has many museums that showcases Macau's historical past and colorful present.

TIP: Tourists can get a day pass at the Tourism office in downtown Macau for anly $25 MOP. This pass is good for all museums listed below namely, the wine museum, Grand Prix museum, Macau Museum, The Lin Zexu Museum, The Maritime Museum and the The Macau Museum of Art.

Minhas férias de Macau - Part 2

Just can't get enough of Macau. Sucha small place but so many sights to see. Here are some more spots to visit in this 3-island wonder place!

A piece of Venice in Asia

My stay in Macau has been nothing short of Fun. My eyes festived with wonderful sights, my mind enriched with rich culture and history and my tummy's been filled with - err.. umm, let's say unusual cuisine.

In addition to this, here are some photos of me and my friends in our temporary royal-like "home" here in Macau. ( Thanks to Ate Vanj and Kuya for the huge discount they gave us!!!)

Here at St. Mark's Square you can watch the STREETMOSPHERE group sings some Venetian songs. Also lined here are variety of shops ( just like a mall)

Surprisingly, on this really luxurious place there's a food court that sells good food at a fairly reasonable price!

Minhas férias de Macau

Minhas férias de Macau- Means "My Macau Vacation" in Portuguese. It's been years since Macau was colonized by the Potuguese but its effect it is still very evident up to the present. Most people speak Mandarin or Macanese language but customs and traditions still roots from their Portuguese ancestors. This explains why there are lots of Catholic Churches in the area. From a humble fishermans village, Macau has come along way. It is now known as the Las Vegas of Asia due to it's countless Casinos and entertainment sites.

Continuing on my Macau vacation with friends, here are some shots of the places we've visited.

The Macau Business Tourist Center located at the downtown. You can see exhibits and maps of the area in this place. Macau currency is called the MAcau Pataca ( MOP ). Most shops accepts Hongkong Dollars of $20 HKD denomination and up. They do not accept any value lower than that, as per the natives it is because its hard to look for Money changers that accepts smaller HK currency.

"The Ruins" - The face / front side of Saint Paul Cathedral is what's left of it after a fire burned it down centuries ago. This now serves as a popular tourist spot.

A few steps down the ruins is a market place. This is their own version of "Divisoria" where you can find good bargains and great food!

"High School life , Oh my High school life" Don't really know the song but these famous lines lingers to me as I write this entry. As we explore college, my Highschool friends and I rarely see each other, weren't able to go out every so often and so it's nice to be able to rekindle the friendship every once in while. Thus, we plan to go on a trip tp MACAU!

Why Macau? Well, we've heard so much about the place and I think it is the closest thing to Las Vegas we can get here in Asia. Not to mention a touch of Venice experience in Venetian hotel. So why not, right?

Macau is compose of 3 Islands - Macau, Coloane and Taipa.

Macau Island is more of the Busy place where tourist activities and business takes place, Taipa is more of a residential area, a more laid back place to stay and Coloane is more of a historical heritage site.( Thanks to a Semi- Macanese native Ate Vanj, Diana's cousin for all these infos ).

Will tell you more about the places and my adventures with my HS buddies in the next entries, For now, I'd focus on one of bravest undertaking I've made. My Macau SKY JUMP EXPERIENCE!

The Macau Tower, is the tallest SkyJump tower tower and is the 10th tallest building in the world ( Up to date ). Height measures 338 m (1,109 ft) from ground level to highest point.

Tramping Tagaytay

Another busy week, Another stressful workload, so it's time to unwind and freshen up. Where else is the closest best venue for an out of town trip for us here in the Metro? For me, it's still my favorite side trip place - Tagaytay City.
Tagaytay will never run out of good places and things to offer for kids, for friends, for lovers and for everyone!

As a good start, we decide to eat breakfast at the bag of Beans along Aguinaldo hi-way

We decided to spend our afternoon at the PARADIZOO.

How to get there: From Tagaytay highway ( from the rotonda ), turn right to Mendez the street (after the public market), go straight and turn left on the intersection before the tricycle line. Better to ask directions from the natives of the place since there are no road signs going to the zoo.

Entrace fee is 99Php and you can request a tourguide for small groups free of charge. If you also want to visit the zoo at Residence inn, You can get a 180 Php bundle for entrance on both zoos.

For those who are not in the mood for walking, you can rent a golf cart to use in touring the zoo

This mini zoo is really small compared t o Paradizoo so for those who don't have much time to spend, but wantd to see some animals, then thjis is the place for you. This place is conveniently located at the Main Highway. Entrance fee is about Php 100.

You can take picture with the white Lion for only 49php. Proceeds will go to the animal welfare fund on the zoo.

What a relaxing day! I guess I will never get tired of spending my weekends in Tagaytay!

They say LA ( Los Angeles , California) is the entertaiment capital of the world. Lot's of things to see and do - From simple dinning, movie premiers, unlimited shopping places, adventure zones, recreation parks, nightlife and all that! This place has always been in my top list to visit. I'm just glad I did and will surely be coming back again.

San Francisco is one of the most visited city in California. It boast of many tourist attraction such as the ever famous Golden Gate Bridge, Fishermans' Warf, Piers, Fine arts Museum and Alcatraz to name a few.

It a very tourist friendly city. Going around the area is really easy and most places are accessible via the electric bus, train or cable car.

The Golden Gate Bridge - is said the be the most famous bridge in the wold. It is also the longest suspention bridge ever made by man. It was called the "Golden" since the redish color ( which is actually a vermillion orange) color turns goldish when the sun reflects it light on it during sunset. TRIVIA : Unfortunately, the Golden gate bridge it is said to be the most reported place to commit suicide in the world)

The movie "Sleepless in Seattle" has always been one of my favorites. Of course, some of the scenes in it was shot in Seattle (if not all.) The movie setting is perfect for lovers and those who want to fall in love. I really feel so lucky to have chance to visit this wonderful city, coz tonight, I'm sleeping in Seattle. YEY!

Upon seeing Mount Helens from the plane, I know I'll enjoy my stay here. Overview of the place is that it has many bodies of waters, it has lots of greens ( lots of trees ) and marvelous snow capped mountains. I guess I arrived at the best part of the year. It's not foggy, not hot, weather is just perfect for strolling around.

At the Waterfront Strip in Seattle is where you find all the best Restaurants in the city.

The Crab Pot at Seattle Pier is a heaven for all seafood lovers! I've never tasted such good crabs and shrimps. This is definitely one of the best tasting seafood restaurants I've been to.

Shrimps, king crabs, snow crabs, clams, mussels, salmon, tuna... Everything I could ever ask for... YUMMY!!

Tully's is one of the popular cafe here in Washington (of course, Starbucks and Seattle's best coffee are just scattered around the area).

About 30 minutes drive from Seattle is another spot to visit in Washington - Bellevue.

Bellevue caters a lot of restaurants that offers variety of cuisine. You'd be surprise that prices are not that high for a nice restaurant like this. ( McCormick &Schmicks located at Lincoln Square- Bellevue)

A Noble cause - Gawad Kalinga

Life is good. It has always been and will always be. I've traveled to places, ate good food, shopped till I dropped, tried different sports and engaged in different adventures. I feel blessed to have so much fun-filled expereinces and bold undertakings in my life, so I guess it's time to give back something to my community and fellowmen.

Not to long ago, I attended a talk about the Gawad Kalinga Foundation and was moved by mission of it's founder Mr. Tony Meloto. In my lifetime, only few have I encountered a man with such clean and pure intention to help others. A very selfless and honorable man in it's truest sense!

And so, I was moved and decide to help out. Those of you out there that are thinking of ways to help out, I suggest you to volunteer yourself and help out any Gawad Kalinga (GK) Projects. I'm pretty sure this is something you will be proud of. :-)

Back to Fuego

Back to Fuego, this time, it's not a clean- up dive anymore but a weekend getaway with my college barkada. It's difficult to schedule an out of town get away for me and my college buddies since we are now all working in different work settings, but as it goes, if there's a will there's a way! Nothing can keep us from having fun whatever it takes! It may be after summer season already but we decided to catch our last hooray for this summer at the beach.

Terazzas de Punta Fuego is the newer clubhouse for the members of the exclusive Club Punta Fuego. It's located in Nasugbu, Batangas which is about 2 to 3 hour-drive from Manila. It boast of it's world class resort amenities and wonderful beach ambiance.

Caramoan Survivor Challenge

Another fast rising tourist spot in the region is the town of Caramoan. The beautiful beaches on the islands did not escape the scrutinous eye of the French Survivor Management, they picked this place to be the location of the famous French Survivor TV show series. Most Islets in Caramoan boast of virgin beach, powdery white sand and clear blue water. The place is not yet commercialized that there is no public resort or establishments yet. Most tourists just rent a boat at the Centro and do island hopping (Whole day boat rental is Php 1,200.00 -1,500.00). Boatmen are very hospitable and friendly, an attitude exemplifies by most Bicolanos. Do remember that there is no overnight accommodations on the islands, tourist either just camp on the beaches or go back to Centro where in you can find low price inns.

As we continue to explore the Bicol region, top on our list is to visit the world famous wakeboarding site. Where else but in Camarines Sur. The Camsur water sports complex is said to be the best water cable park in the world.

How to get there:

By Air - Air Philippines fly directly to Pili airport at Naga city and you can just take a shuttle from there or Cebu Pacific flight to Naga then a van or jeepney ride to CWC.
By Land - Isarog bus lines (to Naga) BLTB, JB Line, Bicol Express and Philtranco bus company (to Legaspi).

The accommodations are great and you'd be surprised that the rates are very affordable! Spending on your budget and need, you have several options to choose from: Trailers, Mansion, Cabanas and Villas. I never tried wakeboarding before and after I tried it, I think my Camsur experience made me found a new hobby.

Exploring Mt. Mayon

How to get there:

By Air- PAL and Cebu Pacific flies Manila to Legaspi daily. In Cebu Pacific (our pick), the price is approximately Php 2500.00 but if you're lucky to get the Piso fair which we did, One way is only about Php 1500.00. The travel rime is about an hour.

By Land- Isarog bus lines (to Naga), BLTB, JB line Bicol Express and Philtranco bus company. Price range is from Php 600.00 - 900.00. Travel time is 7-8 hours.
So far, from all the local destinations I've been to, I feel that the people of Legaspi, are one of the nicest people I've met. They are very hospitable and do not take advantage of local tourists like us. From Legaspi airport, we hired a van going to Mount Mayon (Cagsaua). Travel time is about 2 hours and van rental is about Php 2500.00. You can also ask the driver to bring you places around the area before going to Cagsaua Ruins.

The Cagsaua bell tower is the only landmark left after the eruption of Mount Mayon in the 1814. The whole church was buried under lava and now the bell tower is the most photographed place in Albay. Most Bicolanos said it to be "untouched wrath of nature".

On our way back to Manila from Ilocos, We decided to pass by one of the most talked about restaurants in Tarlac - Isdaan. Isdaan, is a Filipino restaurant that has a unique concept. Aside from it's floating kubo tables, it also has a "Taksiapo wall". In this part of the restaurant, you can buy plates, mugs, bowls and even a television that you can throw and smash against the Taksiapo wall. It is said to be therapeutic in releasing anger and frustrations. Another attraction in the restaurant is the stone bridge in the center wherein any guest who can cross it gets 1 kilo of free fish! Of course, there is a catch in crossing it, but if you're up for the fun, then the free fish is yours!

Various statues are scattered throughout out the restaurant that makes it really a good place to visit (it's good to take pictures with them for souvenirs). Food is good and prices are very reasonable.

Pagudpud, here I come!!

The last stop in my Ilocandia tour is no less than, Pagudpod beach! From Vigan by road, Pagudpod is about 3 hours drive up north. (Manila to Vigan is approximatelty 10-12 hours depending on the traffic). As most say, it's the Boracay of the North, clear blue water and powdery white sand. And just like Boracay which have 3 stations, Station 1 having the finest sand, Pagupod also have it's station 1 counterpart, they call it the Blue Lagoon beach. From the main Pagudpod arc, instead of turning left to Saud beach, (Saud beach is the more popular beach area where most resorts are located) the way to blue Blue Lagoon beach is to go straight, for about another 30 minutes drive until you see the sign on your left that welcomes you to Blue Lagoon beach (there's an entrance fee of Php 20 per head). We were initially booked at the most advertised Resort in Blue Lagoon, The Kapuluan Beach Resort, but since their service wasn't as good as any booking agent should be, our booking was canceled at the last minute! Talk about poor customer service! Good thing there are other resorts nearby. Since it's Summer, most resorts were fully booked but luckily, we found ourselves staying in one of the nicest resort in the area - Hannah's Place. Incidentally, town's Mayor was also booked there, so we were neighbors for a day!

Hannah's place room rates is Php 8000 for executive family rooms (8-10 pax), Php 4200 for Deluxe family room (4-6 pax), Php 2800- 3000 for single and double rooms. Php 250 for extra bed and there are also picnic huts and sheds if you just wanted to stay for the day. There's also a mini grotto in the resort and a swimming pool was being constructed (it wasn't completed yet during our stay) As a whole, I will rate this place as 3.5 stars, 5 being the highest. I personally did not enjoy the sand in Pagudpod as I much as I did in Boracay. It must be because I was expecting too much or I just like the shores of Boracay better (now i wonder.. is Saud beach better than Blue Lagoon...? hmm..).

A. Ferdinand E. Marcos Museum

After our Vigan trip, we were excited to explore the region and see the other wonders of the area. The following day, we woke up early since we know that we will have a busy day ahead. We head up first to the Marcos Museum. This was not really in our list of places to visit but since we are already driving around, we decided to go there anyway. It is located at Batac, Ilocos Norte. I am not a Marcos Loyalist but I was impressed with his intelligence and dedication to work after I read some of his letters displayed in the museum. Opposite this building is a mausoleum where the body of the ex-president is displayed in a glass coffin (glass-entombed). Upon entering, you will smell the scent of flowers and hear some sort of like a Gregorian chant music. I really find it Eerie. But hey, it's not like you see something like this everyday. Visitors are not allowed to take pictures inside so I only got pictures from the exhibit.

B. Cape Bojeador Lighthouse
A must to see here in Ilocos is the famous Cape Bojeador Lighthouse. It was created in the year 1892 so it's more than 100 years old already. What amazes me is that up to this day, the lighthouse is still functional. There's also a mini- museum midway up the lighthouse tower but it was closed when we got there. Museum viewing time is from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM only. I wish we had found out about this sooner so that we could have arrived earlier. Anyway, the view from the top of the lighthouse tower and the century old structure is already a worth it trip to this place. For those who who wish to visit the place and don't want to get too much tan, don't forget to bring sunblock!

C. Malacañang of the North

This vacation house in Paoay, Ilocos Norte is where President Marcos stayed each time he visits his northern hometown province during his term, thus the name, "Malacañang of the North". It is a 2-storey house with a tennis court and a Olympic size swimming pool. After the Philippine government reclaimed ownership of the house, they opened it for public viewing. Entrance fee is PHP 20.00 for Adults and PHP 10 for kids. Take note that the place is closed for viewing during lunch time and reopens at 1:00 in the afternoon (viewing time is 9am-11:30am and 1pm-4:30pm; it is open from tuesday to sunday and is closed on monday). There is also a tour guide that you can request for free. The view from the veranda of the house is breathtaking! You can see the scenic beauty of the Paoay Lake. It has 5 guest rooms, 2 main bedrooms for Imelda and Ferdinand (they both have their own rooms), a huge dining area, a kitchen and a mini kitchen, a clinic (it is said that this is where he had his dialysis treatment during his last few years of stay here), and an office. There's also a majestic lobby at the second floor the house aside from the first floor lobby.

The Master's bedroom, which is President's Marcos' bedroom, has a large receiving area. It is located on the first floor. Imelda Marcos' room is located at the second floor, also have a receiving area, a walk-in closet and a bathroom (bathtubs are not so popular at that time yet, but Imelda has one in her bathroom already!).

D. The Paoay Church
Another Historical landmark in the area is the Paoay church, was said to be built around 1800's and is included in as UNESCO's Heritage list. The massive post of the church makes it earth quake resistant that is why it remains one of the architectural wonder in the region. A similar Baroque style church stands in Intramuros, Manila, the San Agustin church, except that it is smaller than the Paoay Church.

A little trivia -The Paoay church bell tower that still stands today, has been said that it served as an observation post of the Filipino Guerillas during the Japanese war era.

E. Fort Ilocandia Resort

One of the best resorts to stay-in while you are in Ilocos is of course, Fort Ilocandia. It is not a budget hotel, but if you have some money to spend, it's definitely a good experience to try. Just like most 5 star hotels, it offers convenience to all it's guests such as fine dining, sports and leisure activities, salon, spa, and fitness amenities. Aside from a swimming pool surrounded with good landscape, there's also a beach that guests can enjoy.

F. Bangui Bay Wind Power Project

Of all the wonderful places we visited here in Ilocandia, for me, nothing beats the Bangui windmills. Never been to anything like this before. Merely the sight of the windmills from afar excites me, much more going to the shore where it actually stands! The road going to the windmills is horrible, talk about rough, dusty, rocky roads that goes up and downhill. Some visitors opted to walk instead of riding a vehicle going to the windmill shore but since me and my friends were not equipped for that long walk, we drove the car up to the shore. There are total of 15 giant windmills at this time but President GMA is expecting 5 more wind turbines to rise at Bangui wind farm to increase the energy produced for Ilocos Norte power consumers.

Ilocandia Tour - My visit to Vigan

The first stop on my "Ilocandia tour" is the historic town of Vigan in Ilocos sur. They say it's one of the most preserved Spanish colonial city not just in the country but in the whole of Asia!

Vigan is about 10 hour drive from Manila via the North Luzon Express way. There are daily trips from Malina to Laoag via public bus, Partas Bus Line and the Philippine Rabbit (those are the buses I saw along highway during my travel). If you hate road travel, you can reach Laoag via plane, I think Cebu pacific caters to this destination. Once in Laoag, you can just take a jeepney or tricycle ride going to Vigan Historical site.

After my trip to Corregidor, I begin to learn to appreciate historical sites. This Vigan trip made me like it even more. The long dirve from Manila to Vigan is all worth it. The place is a must to visit! It is as if you travelled back in time. It gives you a nostalgic feeling walking along Vigan's brickroad. Calle Crisologo is full of old houses that was built during the Spanish era. It's architecture and design amazes me (the only thing I do not like on this area is that most of the houses on the street is converted into souvenir shops).

Reminiscing my Puerto del Sol experience

Its mid-Summer season already and I have not yet gone to the beach. I guess summer's coming in late for me this year. Hmm, can't wait to go to the beach!

In the mean time, let me share my summerscapade at Puerto Del Sol from last year. Good thing I was able to find some pictures stored here in my PC.

Puerto Del Sol is located in Pangasinan I think it's about 5 hour drive from Manila. Road going to the resort as I recall is not as friendly as I expected it to be, there are lots of uncemented areas and small streets that you need to pass before you reach the place. The resort itself is Awesome! As most beaches in the area, it has fine white sand and clear blue water ( although water on the beach is knee high only during low tide so obviously it's not conducive for swimming). And what I love most about the place is that it's not as crowded as the beaches in Batangas or Boracay. You can feel the exclusivity of the place and you can really relax as much as you please. The resort also serves good food and offers some recreational facilities like billiards, tennis and badminton courts and some others. It also has a jacuzzi and a swimming pool.

The title may not sound catchy but it's not as bad as you think. When I heard about this new government project that they are promotiong an alternative route from Guadalupe to Divisoria via Pasig River, I said to myself, who would in her right mind opt for that? As our generation know, Pasig river is one of the ghastliest river in Asia, so why submit yourseft to such unpleasant experience?

Well, I guess I judged too much. My ferry trip From Guadalupe to Escolta wasn't too bad after all. Actually, I did enjoy it and I would recommend it to friends. The ferry is new, aircon was working well, seats and boat interiors were clean plus, there are friendly crewmen onboard that adds a positive mark to the trip.

We hopped in from the nearest station from Ortigas - Guadalupe Station.

The ticket booth is not crowded and don't have long lines like the MRT/ LRt usually have. Upon purchasing your ticket, you have to register in their manifesto before boarding the ferry. Fare ranges from 25Php to 55Php.

The ferry ticket is a bar-coded paper that you tap on the entrance counter. Neat!

Here's a glimpse of how the station looks like. Fully airconditioned, fairly furnished, and clean. I think every staion have it's own toilet so you don't have to worry if you need to go th the john before your ferry ride. The approximated wait time for each ferry to arrive at the station is 30 minutes.

Pictures inside the ferry.. seats are just made out of plastic but they are comfortable to sit on. There's also a flat TV that show concerts of various artist that entertains travellers on board.

Some reminders.. PLease don't take home the lifevests!

During the trip, you can walk around the boat and even go outside in the viewdeck to take some pictures..

The Ferry pass by, Schools ( St. Jude and PUP and others..), under bridges, oil facilities, factories, the Philippine post and the Malacañang palace. There are lots of old houses and boat ruins you'll see alongside too. ( Sad to say, There are still areas where you see garbage floating around) As we passed by the Malacañang Palace, the crewmen asked us to keep our cameras beacause it's not allowed to take photos of that place. I wonder why? Isn't it one of our country's landmark? It should be a good photo souveneir for local and foreign tourist alike. I'm a bit frustrated because if this.

To get a better view of the ferry's interior, we waited until everyone left the ferry. We took pictures and walk around inside that we noticed that the ferry is moving again. We almost missed our stop. Thanks to the kind Captain, he brought us back to the unloading dock.

Alas, we reached our destination - Escolta Station. Safe and sound! The ferry trip was indeed a funfilled experience. It actually reminded me of my Bangkok River cruise, just of course a bit lesser in quality ( since this is just an ordinary passenger riverferry trip and not a cruise). Nevertheless, I must say the "Piso para sa Pasig" campaign is all worth it and with continued effort to clean and rehabilitate Pasig, It will in the future, reclaim it's glory. Mabuhay Philippines!

Marching to Bataan, My Mount Samat Adventure!

I was not always a fan of history but there is something in Historical Places that facinates me.

Bataan is rich in culture, history and great places to visit! Just about an hour drive from Subic ( Olongapo ), you can reach the Famous Mount Samat. For those travelling via private vhicle, you will see road signs that will help you reach the place. For those using the public busses, I think Genesis Line from Cubao and Victory liner offers direct seat to Bataan. Travel time is about 4 hours from Manila, you can get there even faster if you try to leave early and beat the traffic.

This was my first visit to Bataan, I was surprise to see big houses alongside the road. It's kinda unusual to see that in between rice fields, you see huge modern concrete houses that you just usually see on Posh villages and subdivisions in the cities. Well,I guess, Bataan indeed is full of surprises!

SM Science and Discovery Center at the Mall of Asia

Another "first" here in the Philippines is the SM Science and Discovery Center. It is a state of the art interactive type of museum wherein visitors can touch, play and be part of the exhibits. The center have games wherein you can play along and see yourself in the computer monitor as you do so. It is like being there inside the actual game! This place is recommended for kids to vist since it helps them to learn Science beyond just the book type of learning. (Too bad they didn't have this during my younger years, I might have Aced Science class!)

This planetarium is actually a 360 degrees cinema with comfortable chair and good surround sytem. Too bad wasn't able to take photos inside. I guess I was so entertained by the film shown. It was as if I was really in the location shoot!

New Airsoft Gamesite : The Backyard

Alas! Here's another Airsoft related entry. New gamesite, that is since it's my first time to go here. Been a while since I've played this sport and playing again makes me realize how fun it was!

The excitement came back once I started wearing my BDU ( Uniform ) again. Gearing up is always part of the fun in this hobby. Since I haven't played for a long time, my airsoft gears isn't that complete anymore; thus, I need to borrow some stuffs from my team mates. It's always an advantage having those sweet, nice, ever-reliable teammates of mine. Wink! Wink! ( I just need to say that last line so they will lend me their stuffs again! )

What made me play again was this new gamesite that my teamates have been talking about. They call it - The Backyard. They said it's new and they have been hearing some nice reviews about it. Then, that means I need to see and try it for myself.

The place is Located in Mandaluyong inside the Women's correctional village. Location alone makes me wonder how the place looks like. Seems like another interesting place to see. A game site inside the correctional? Hmm.. . isn't that intriguing?

As I arrive in the place, I did an ocular inspection with my team mates. The site is pretty small, I say just about 500 sq meters ( not so sure but just an estimate ) one can stand in one side and see the full game field. One thing I like about the area is, is that it has lot's of obstacles and cover-ups. There are plywood set-ups, old drums, cluster of trees, a little made-up river, twigs and sack blocks and some other barriers which is essential to a good game site. The place also have a stand-up post for Martials ( Martials are those people who officiate the game) where they stay during the game. This is a plus factor since the it enables them to see and facilitate the game better.

Kudos to team Saga and all those who maintain this site! Good job sirs and Ma'ams! See you in the next battle.

A jaunt to Tagaytay

As a kid, I've always known Tagaytay as place to go horse back riddingand sunday picnic. As I grow older, it came in to be a place for overlooking gimmick place and beer bong area. Now, it still rhe same old everything except that I see more to it - a place of good food, haven of relaxation ( it got numerous spa and healty food ) and peaceful sanctuaries wherein you can meditate and appreciate life's blessings.

One of the places in Tgaytay I would recommnd to freinds is Caleruega. For me it's not just a place or worship but a refuge away from the buzzling city life. It has wonderful lanscapes picture perect sceneries and refreshing ambience that would surely make your visit enchanting.

HOW TO GET THERE : After a long rocky road from the gate of Dn Bosco- Churh on the hill; go straight until you see the sign. Just follow the road and it will lead you directly to the Churchs' entrance

Amidst the rocky road, you'll see lucious greens around you that make the trip worthwhile...

ANd you think I would leave Tagaytay without rewarding myself with good food? Definitely NOT!

Next Stop, The Cliff House along Tagaytay's main road. Entrance is pretty small compared to other custer of Restos along the area so I suggest you stroll along the road carefully so as not to miss the place. If you're from Tagytay Rotonda goint to Batangas, Cliff House will be on your right side. Here's a peek of some Restaurants inside ...

The famous volcano in the Lake, or is it a lake within the volcano? Whatever it is, Taal would always be one of Tagaytay's prime spot bith for local and foreign tourist alike.

To end our Tgaytay trip, we head to a Coffe shop/ Snack bar before going back to Manila. Going back, passing through Santa Rosa exit, we decided to try this new place called the Tgaytay Econo inn. As same says, It's actually an inn wherein you can stay if you decide to extend your trip overnight. Place is neat and Price is affordable starting from Php2500 per night. I'm not really sure what's included in this package but seems to be pretty reasonable. The lobby cafe has good food and I can say for the price of their pasta meals, taste is really good!

The Entrace to the Inn serves as a view deck and an outdoor Coffe place. Too bad we weren't able to stay here since it was too cold and windy at that time.

To wrap it alls, My tagaytay experience as always pleasurable! It is something I would never get tired of visitng over and over again. And of course,there's never a bad travel if you share it with good friends! Until then, See you again Tagaytay!

My Hundred Island Adventure

Is there a better way to spend your weekend holiday than going out of town with friends? Not to mention to get free meals, board and lodging and special treatments courtesy our dear freind's boss who's been so generous showing us around!

For all the outdoor ethusiasts, you should't miss to explore Pangasinan's Hundred Islands. There are lot's of things to do than just island hop. Try their Milkfish dishes and it will get you crave for more! Have a videoke night and sing your heart out while watching the fireflies dance around in the islands. You can also visit old churches, grab some pasalubong in the public market or just have a road trip along the streets and see some old houses that dated way back the Spanish era. Of course, you shouldn't head home and let pass sunbathing in the island of your choice once you're here. Water sports wouldn't be that much of an attraction here but snorkling will be a good alternative!

WAT HUA LAMPHONG ( one of the biggest Buddist Temple in central Silom)

The River sun cruise toured around the water ways of Bangkok. It passed by several Temples and nice sceneries. During the tour, lunch was served buffet style! Snacks were served with coffee, tea or fresh juices with crackers and other finger foods. You can walk around the cruise ship, have picture with the captain, sunbathe at the view deck or just enjoy the scenery inside the airconed luxury sea vessel. Oh, what a life!

Go to Go-go bars, watch Lady boy shows, walk the night markets - A must-to-do in Bangkok!
For the Reggae fanatics, Kausan road is a haven for you guys. As the place motto goes " never leave Kaosan without having your hair get dreds! All side street bars are very rich in diverse music from jazz to classical, to hip hop and reggaes, to dance and acoustic! All tastes satisfied here! Kaosan road will always be one of my favorite place in Bankok!

Their package already includes a sumptuous breakfast and lunch. You can choose from couples room, group or family villas. The fresh morning dew is breathtaking.

After a long road from Manila to Batangas, an hour ferry ride, we are finally here.

Verde's Infinity pool is big enough to accomodate to start a touchball game among freinds..

Any idea what Airsoft is? I never had one until I came to know and love the sports. Airsoft may not be as popular as basketball, Football, baseball, hockey or any other team sports but it sure is lots of fun !!!!

Let me introduce myself, I am warfairy-the warrior, the princess!

Why princess? Oh well, I always dreamt that one day, my knight in shinning armor or my prince charming will come rescue me. Why warrior? Simple, I got tired of waiting! So I picked up the gun and do the fighting myself. Ironically, it's not bad as it seemed to be. I had fun! And I love it!

And so my quest for airsoft begun...

For all the girls out there that thought this game is not for us, you're wrong! Definitely mistaken by wrong beliefs! Don't let such misconceptions hinder you from enjoying. Remember, if guys love guns and gals, we do too!!!

What is it all about? How to play it? What are the things needed to play Airsoft. I'll try to answer all of these, the best I could. ( In my own point of view and personal knowledge that is =) )

As a Newbie, there are lots of things you need to know. It's actually very simple because as you play along, these terms would come out naturally. For those who have military background, words, terms and strategies are quite the same.
